Employer starts memorial fund for delivery rider who died in Bedok Reservoir accident

In honour of motorcyclist and delivery rider Mr Mohamed Shahidy Affendi who was killed in a fatal crash at Bedok Reservoir Road, his former employer The Shepherd's Pie will donate $1 from every pie sold during the month of June to his mother, who is a single parent.

The crash happened about 10.30pm on Friday, May 18, in front of the Waterfront Waves condominium, where eyewitnesses saw the young man pinned under the taxi.

A spokesperson from The Shepherd's Pie says:

"Two Fridays ago, many were shocked to hear about the motorcyclist who died after being pinned under a taxi along Bedok Reservoir Road--and even more horrified to read that just a few hours earlier, he had tweeted about his loneliness and had predicted that, "If I die, I would die alone."

"What you may not know is that the 23-year-old Mr Mohamed Shahidy Affendi was a delivery rider for The Shepherd's Pie.

"At 9:00 pm that night, he delivered his last shepherd's pie and went home to have dinner with his mother.

"More than an hour later, he was on his way to his school, the Institute of Technical Education East, to settle some extra-curricular activity.

"He never made it to the school.

"Shahidy worked part-time with us for a year to help fund his studies.  He was cheerful, hardworking, well-liked, and always eager to help.

"We would like to honor Shahidy by donating $1 from every pie sold during the month of June to his mother, who is a single parent.

"For more information, or to contribute to the memorial fund, please contact The Shepherd's Pie at 6789-0707."

Sorry "Shepard's Pie" but i think you are using his death for your own publicity... $1 really??? I've know how much you charge for your pies... I think what you are doing is very very wrong!! Best to just donate directly to his family... May he rest in peace ...

S$1/- dollar is a good gesture, but I believe the comapny should issue a one off monetary package tp the family.

After all the rider was a loyal emplyee.

$1 is really not much.. I would rather donate directly to his immediate family. More practical in tat manner.
