A spokesperson for the SMRT has stated that an electrical fault had caused a compartment cover to fall of a train at Ang Mo Kio MRT tracks at around 6.30pm on June 12.
This was the cause of the loud bang that STOMPer Chia Huat had heard from his block opposite Ang Mo Kio MRT station. Due to this, power was switched of to the tracks, causing a disruption in train service.
Said the spokesperson:
"At around 6.30pm today (Jun 12), an electrical fault occurred to a component on a northbound train that had just departed Ang Mo Kio station, and this caused a loud noise as its compartment cover fell off.
"Power was switched off along this stretch of track for around 8 minutes, as our staff went to retrieve the cover from the track, and this caused a slight delay in service.
"The train was withdrawn from service.
"As a precautionary measure, the northbound track at Ang Mo Kio was closed for inspection and northbound trains are routed to the middle track so that service can continue.
"There was no safety risk posed to commuter service at any point in time.
"Our engineers have just completed checks on the closed track to ensure that the northbound track is safe for rail operations."
Don everything blame SMRT. You think they want it this way? You are yet to see who is actually ruling our rail transport. It is not really SMRT to call the shots
another thing, whenever there is a train delay, please, please, please dont keep on repeating the same announcement. Passengers are already irritated and you are agitating them further! repeat the announcement if you have to, but different phrases?
