Surprise candidate for presidency: Tan Jee Say collects eligibility forms

Another candidate for the presidency has emerged today (Jul 15), with former SDP candidate Tan Jee Say collecting certificate of eligibility forms from the Elections Department. Mr Tan was also formerly principal private secretary to then DPM Goh Chok Tong.

According to a Straits Times report, Mr Tan Jee Say decided to run as he feels that many Singaporeans 'want to have a choice to elect a distinctly non-PAP candidate whose independence of the PAP Government is clear'.

Mr Tan most recently ran as a Singapore Democratic Party candidate in Hougang - Bukit Timah GRC in the May 7 general election.

Some teachers are reportedly hoping that the Presidential Election will be held on Aug 27, so that they would have a shorter workweek leading up to Teachers' Day.

Now that Tony Tan has assumed office, can you imagine TJS in his position in the parliament? Will the PM and the Chief Justice feel comfortable by his side during the swearing in ceremony and others that follow. PAP is lucky to be spared this agonising moment.

On hindsight, Tan JeeSay was lucky to get back his deposit at the expense of Tan Kin Lian. Now, that he had lost in GE and lost in PE all within 6 months, what's up next?

Dear Sir,

Pardon me for being direct.
The current salary for the SG President stays at $4MILLION a year...

What will you tell the Govt should you be elected as the next SG President about your salary expectation?
Will you tell them that you will only need $10-20k a month since everything are already paid for by the tax payer money?

Will you tell them to donate those balance of the $4million to the needy one or invest in better education for those poor and needy?

What will you said as this is very important to me on who i shall vote?

He'll be tied if he's elected; better off if he remains the opposition voice. President cannot push or voice his own political agenda, right?
Don't miss these...
